Teen Times - April 2015
If I haven’t mentioned this in any of the Teen Times articles in Lifelines over the past 5 years then I will now. Being the Director of Youth Ministry at Lord of Life is great! There are a number of reasons why I love doing what I do. First, I have had the privilege of watching my two sons, Marcus and Curtis, grow up through the Sr. High youth group. I am also thankful that my wife Jonelle was involved in the youth ministry at the same time as our boys to help out with youth nights and be a chaperone on the various summer trips. It’s a blessing to have the whole family be a part of such an important ministry.
Second, I have a great time working with all of the Jr. High and Sr. High youth through the many activities that are a part of our youth ministry; Sunday morning Bible class, youth nights, confirmation classes, summer mission trips, youth conferences, and fundraising events. It is also a delight for me to be involved in the lives of the younger children by sharing children’s messages during worship services, and sharing God’s Word to them during Vacation Bible School. I love seeing what the youth ministry will look like in the future in the faces of the young children.
Third, it is truly an honor to work with a church staff that uses their God given talents to his glory and is dedicated to sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ through Word and Sacrament, creating meaningful worship experiences, and performing the number of administrative tasks needed every week.
Fourth, it has been fun meeting other pastors and youth leaders in the North Dallas area and getting to know the youth from other Lutheran Churches on the number of trips that we have shared.
Fifth, it humbles me to no end how blessed I am to be a part of a congregation whose support of the youth ministry, both spiritual and financial, has allowed it to flourish and experience many things that otherwise would not be possible.
Most important of all, I enjoy my position at Lord of Life because I have the opportunity to make an IMPACT on the lives of young people through the power of the Holy Spirit. He gives me the opportunity to share God’s grace, the love of Jesus, the forgiveness of sins, and the hope of eternal life. It can’t get any better than that! This can all be summed up in just a few words; thanks be to God! In the name of our risen Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, God’s blessing to you all.
